Scottish Bishops urge Catholics to contribute to work of Synod.

Scotland's Bishops have asked the catholic community of Scotland to get involved in preparations for the 2012 Synod of Bishops on the subject of the "New Evangelization"

Bishop Philip Tartaglia who is the bishop delegated by the Bishops¹ Conference of Scotland to participate in the 2012 Synod has called on individuals, schools and parishes to contribute to Scotland's response to the preparatory document for the meeting which will be sent to Rome later this year.

A series of slides outlining the theme of the New Evangelization has been posted on the BeingCatholic.org website where it is possible to read a full presentation on the Synod and its proposed work. It is also possible to contribute comments or documents for inclusion in the Scottish Bishops'response.

Speaking about the innovative consultation, Bishop Tartaglia said;

"The new evangelization is primarily addressed to those who have drifted from the Church in traditionally Christian countries like ours. The aim of the synod will be to examine the present situation and discuss new methods and means for transmitting the Good News to people in our world today. In a word, the situation in countries like ours, requires the Church to consider, in an entirely new way, how she proclaims and transmits the faith."

Bishop Tartaglia concluded;

"I hope our schools in particular will contribute to this process. It would interesting if some senior pupils in high schools could reflect on their experience of how well the Catholic faith is being passed on to them at home, in the parish and at school, and respond to the Pope's reflection that the Church is suffering an ‘educational emergency’ in that we seem to be struggling to transmit the faith to younger Catholics as fully and as well as we should."
